PMA MEMBERS TO HOLD CONTRACT RATIFICATION VOTE
The Pacific Maritime Association (PMA) will hold a special meeting on Thursday, September 2, 1999, so its members may participate in a ratification vote on the contract. The ILWU announced that its membership voted overwhelmingly in support of the new contract. As is tradition, the PMA members have waited to hold their ratification vote until the union approved the contract.
"We are pleased that the union voted to ratify this generous contract," said Joseph N. Miniace, president and CEO of the PMA. "Both the ILWU and the PMA worked hard to reach this agreement. This new ILWU - PMA contract builds a stronger relationship between both organizations and encourages both of us to continue working together to make the West Coast ports the strategic ports of choice."
Once the PMA membership ratifies the contract, the contract terms will be implemented.
Please refer to the PMA web site (www.pmanet.org) for additional information regarding the contract.
